Glasgow: Indian boxing scripted history at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Saturday, with the country winning a record seven gold medals, its highest-ever gold haul in the sport at a single edition of the Games.
Preeti (54kg), Jaismine (57kg), Sakshi (51kg), Priya (60kg), Arundhati (70kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg) and Ankush Panghal (80kg) clinched gold, while Jadumani Singh (55kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) and Narender (90+kg) secured silver medals as India dominated the boxing competition with a total of 10 medals.
The performance marks India's best-ever showing in boxing at the Commonwealth Games. With the Glasgow haul, India have now won 44 Commonwealth Games boxing medals overall, comprising 11 gold, 13 silver and 20 bronze.
At the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, India and Northern Ireland were the most successful nations in boxing, with seven medals each. India's haul included three gold, one silver and three bronze, while Northern Ireland topped the medal standings with five golds from its seven medals. India's performance in Glasgow has now surpassed its previous best medal haul in a single edition.
Sachin Siwach clinched the men's 60kg gold after edging Namibia's Tryagain Morni Ndevelo 3-2 in a razor-thin split decision in a gripping final.
Arundhati Choudhary capped her sensational campaign with a commanding unanimous victory over England's Chantelle Reid in the women's 70kg final.
Priya produced a composed and determined performance to win the women's 60kg gold, defeating Canada's Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh 4-1 in a closely contested final.
Sakshi delivered a commanding display in the women's 51kg final, defeating England's Ruby White by a unanimous 5-0 decision in Glasgow.
The Indian boxer controlled the bout with sharp footwork, accurate combinations and disciplined defence, keeping her opponent at bay. Sakshi edged the opening round 10-9 on all five judges' scorecards before tightening her grip on the contest in the second round.
Jaismine also put on a commanding performance to defeat Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh 5-0 and claim the women's 57kg gold.
She controlled the contest from the opening bell, using sharp combinations, superior movement and clean punching to keep Walsh on the back foot throughout the three-round final at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC).
Preeti completed India's gold rush in the women's 54kg category with a dominant 5-0 unanimous victory over Canada's S.S. Delgado in the final at SEC Hall 5.
Preeti dominated from the opening bell, with all five judges scoring each of the three rounds 10-9 in her favour for a perfect 30-27 verdict. She also registered a knockdown during the bout, underlining her superiority over the Canadian boxer.
The landmark performance not only surpasses India's previous best of three boxing gold medals at a single Commonwealth Games edition but also establishes Glasgow 2026 as the most successful outing in Indian boxing history at the Games.
