Another eventful day for the Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games saw the medal's tally increase with more assured to be added to the column in the coming days.

Para powerlifter Sudhir claimed the nation's sixth gold medal at CWG while Murali Sreeshankar lived up to expectations on 4th August in Birmingham. The boxing stars also impressed and have been assured of medals as the likes of PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen progressed to the next round in badminton.

The hockey men's team progressed to the semifinals, though it was a mixed day in squash.

Parapowerlifter Sudhir on Thursday, August 4 added to India's gold medal tally at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham as he won the men's heavyweight event with a new Games record.

Sudhir, who hails from Sonipat in Haryana, set a new Commonwealth Games record with his second lift of 212kg, with which he won 134.5 points, which helped him clinch the gold medal. Sudhir's body weight was listed at 87.30kg with his rack height at 14.

Murali Sreeshankar scripted history for India on Thursday, August 4 as the youngster from Kerala became the first male long jumper to win a Silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The 23-year-old got on the podium with a jump of 8.08 m.

Hima Das qualified for the semi-finals of the Women's 200m heat of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on 4th August.

The 22-year-old from Assam finished on top after finishing the race in 23.42 seconds.

India's Manju Bala advanced to the women's hammer throw final with a throw of 59.68m but Sarita Singh missed out. The cut-off for qualification was 68.00m but Manju managed to qualify because she finished in the top 12.

With a top effort, PV Sindhu qualified for the Round of 16 in the badminton women's singles of the Commonwealth Games 2022. The two-time Olympic medallist defeated Maldives' Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq 21-4, 21-11 in the Round of 32 matches at the NEC Badminton Show Court in Birmingham.
