Benoni: Indian women crushed South Africa in their opening match of the inaugural Women's U-19 T20 World Cup on Saturday. Indian opener Shweta Sehrawat scored an unbeaten 92, in addition to Shafali Verma's 45 off 16, Indian women surpassed the 167 targets with ease at Willowmoore Park stadium, PTI reported.

Shefali, an experienced Indian member with playing 51 T20Is, 21 ODIs and two Test matches, was in good touch as she worked bowlers towards her intentions. Smashing nine fours and a six, she was with an incredible strike rate of 281.25. Sehrawat scored 92 off 57 balls with 20 boundaries. Together they found a target with 21 balls to spare.

Indian skipper Shefali also shone with bowling too, with a figure of 2/31, putting breaks to South African scoring.

Earlier, the South Africans, too, got a flying start with Simone Lourens (61 off 44 balls) and Elandri Janse van Rensburg (23 off 13) putting on 56 runs in only four overs.

Left-arm spinner Sonam Yadav gave India their first breakthrough when she had Rensburg caught behind by Richa Ghosh, who is also a senior India player.

Shafali then got into the act by dismissing her counterpart Oluhle Siyo for a duck.

Madison Landsman chipped in with 32 off 17 balls, while Karabo Meso and Maine Smit made brisk 19 and 16, respectively.
