New Delhi: The BCCI has announced India's 17-member ODI squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 on Monday, after the selection committee meeting headed by the chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Delhi.

Agarkar and Indian captain Rohit Sharma then officially announced the team, followed by a press conference.

Batsmen KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have made a comeback from their injuries besides Jasprit Bumrah, who showcased a brilliant performance in the T20I series in Ireland.

Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been excluded while Kuldeep Yadav, Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna have found a place with Sanju Samson as the backup player.

The addition of Sanju Samson as a backup is owing to KL Rahul having picked a niggle, as confirmed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, reports The Indian Express.

The India squad:

Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna and Sanju Samson (back up).

The Asia Cup 2023 begins on August 30 with Pakistan taking on Nepal in Multan. The tournament will have 13 matches, with four to be held in Pakistan and nine to be hosted by Sri Lanka.

India will play all their matches in Sri Lanka, with their first match scheduled against Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy.

The final is scheduled for September 17 in Colombo.

India, Pakistan and Nepal form Group A while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan form Group B. The top two teams from the groups will progress to ‘Super 4’ stage.
