Sanjay Bangar says Kohli will be disappointed with his shot selection against South Africa

Earlier in the day, Sanjay Bangar, a former batting coach, said that Virat Kohli would be disappointed with the shot-selection that resulted in his dismissal on Day 4 of the first Test between South Africa and India at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.

Despite being out for 35 runs in the first innings, Kohli could only manage 18 runs in the second.

Immediately following lunch on Day 4 of the ongoing Test, he went after a wide delivery from Jansen. This next delivery was bowled well outside the off-stump but Kohli, attempting to press forward, produced an edge that was safely picked up by de Kock at the wicketkeeper.

As he walked back to the dressing room, the India Test skipper looked very upset with himself.

I can't imagine any other reason for him to be disappointed with the shot he chose. To play that shot first ball after lunch, there was a lapse in concentration. Other than that, there should be no other explanation," Bangar said.

Additionally, the former batting coach mentioned the star batter should find a way to avoid getting drawn into wide deliveries.

The attack clearly shows that Virat Kohli is being drawn into wide lines. The ball was going through the 6th and 7th stump lines, not even through the 5th stump line. This is where the test is whether Kohli can beat the bowlers down or find a way to attack the bowlers. "He has to figure out how to handle this," he said.

Kohli had a busy 2021 as he decided to quit his T20I captaincy, and was also removed from the ODI team.

In 2021, Kohli has scored only 536 runs from 11 Tests at an average of 28.21. He also managed just four fifties in Tests in 2021.
