Bengaluru: Star Indian cricketer from Karnataka, Robin Uthappa, announced his retirement on Wednesday. Uthappa was in the playing eleven when India hoisted the 2007 T20 World Cup, NDTV reported.

Uthappa made the announcement on Twitter. "It has been my greatest honour to represent my country and my state, Karnataka. However, all good things must come to an end, and with a grateful heart, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. Thank you all," he tweeted.

The blaster batter was in the Chennai Super Kings squad in IPL 2021 when the team won the title and played for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and 2014, when it won both seasons, under skipper Gautam Gambhir.

He had scored 934 runs in 46 ODIs for India and 249 runs in 13 T20Is in the blue jersey.

His knock of 50 in the group-level match against Pakistan in the 2007 T20 World Cup was one milestone in his career among many. He then came back to pitch in a "bowl out" after the match tied. India won the match after all the bowlers hit the stumps, while Pakistan failed to hit even one. His celebration of taking his cap off and taking bows was a golden moment still cherished by fans.

Among IPL statistics, he is ninth in total runs, with 4952 runs in 205 matches with 27 fifties.
