Kuldeep Yadav achieves record with 5 five-wicket hauls in Tests
text_fieldsNew Delhi: On Day 3 of Test 2 against West Indies in Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Sunday, Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav scripted history after taking a five-wicket haul. With this, Kuldeep became the fastest left-arm wrist spinner to claim 5 five-wicket hauls in Test cricket. When England’s Johnny Wardle also has 5 five-wicket hauls to his account, he took 28 matches, but Kuldeep only took 15 matches to reach the feat.
Former South African left-arm wrist spinner Paul Adams follows the two with 4 five-wicket hauls.
On Day 3, India enforced a follow-on on West Indies with a commanding 270-run lead, thanks to Kuldeep Yadav’s 5-82, bowling them out for 248 in the first innings.
Later at tea, Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar took a scalp each, reducing the West Indies to 35/2 in 14.3 overs of their second innings, continuing to be dominant in the second and final Test, IANS reported.
Indian skipper Shubman Gill also achieved a feat on this Test but on Day 2. He overtook Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest captain to score five Test centuries in a calendar year.
Gill is the third in the world with five test centuries from 12 innings and second among Indian batters. Alastair Cook (nine innings) and Sunil Gavaskar (10 innings) are in the first and second positions. Also, Gill is only the second Indian captain to attain the feat after Kohli. Kohli achieved the same in 2017 and 2018 from 18 innings.
Since becoming the Indian Test captain, the player has scored 933 runs and averages 84.
