Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has achieved an unprecedented milestone in the ICC Test Bowling Rankings, surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin’s record to become the highest-rated Indian bowler in history.

Bumrah closed out 2024 with 71 Test wickets, cementing his position as the year’s leading wicket-taker in the format. His stellar performances earned him 907 rating points, eclipsing Ashwin’s previous high of 904.

Bumrah’s nine-wicket haul in the Melbourne Test further solidified his standing at the top of the ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings. His achievement also places him joint-17th on the all-time Test bowlers' list, alongside England’s legendary spinner Derek Underwood.

Bumrah’s dominant display throughout 2024 has earned him nominations for the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year (Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy) and ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year awards. While he remains a few spots shy of the global all-time rankings - led by England’s Sydney Barnes (932 points) and George Lohmann (931 points) - Bumrah’s rise marks a significant moment in Indian cricket history.

Australia’s Pat Cummins has also gained in the latest ICC rankings.

Cummins, tied for fifth place with Glenn McGrath at 914 points in the all-time bowling list, contributed to Australia’s 184-run victory in the fourth ICC World Test Championship series match against India in Melbourne. His all-around performance, including 90 runs across two innings, elevated him to third place in the Test all-rounder rankings.

India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal climbed to a career-best fourth place in the ICC Test batting rankings with 854 points following his 82-run first-innings effort in the Boxing Day Test. Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy’s maiden Test century propelled him 20 spots to 53rd in the rankings.
