New Delhi: England's veteran fast bowler James Anderson on Thursday became the first player to play 100 Test matches at home, writing history, IANS reported.

Anderson, the 40-year-old pacer, met the record during England's second Test against South Africa in Manchester.

Though 72 players have played more than 100 Tests in their career, none of them has played the same at home. Cricket legend Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is the only player in history to play 200 tests, but he also could only play 94 of them at home. However, he stands second to Anderson on the 'home' list. England teammate Stuart Broad is fourth on the list with 91 appearances, while former teammate Alastair Cook is fifth with 89 Tests at home.

In the overall Test appearances, Anderson is next to Tendulkar with174 Test appearances. Cook and Broad are the only other England players with more than 150 Tests.

On his landmark test, Anderson started by dismissing South Africa opener Sarel Erwee, catching him in the fifth over.
