Chennai to host IPL 2024 final, BCCI unveils full schedule
text_fieldsThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the complete schedule for the IPL 2024 tournament, including venue allocations and match timings.
Chennai has been designated as the host city for this year's IPL final on May 26, along with hosting rights for the second qualifier on May 24.
Chennai's selection as the venue for the final was influenced by the fact that the Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions. According to the convention, the title holders have the privilege of hosting both the opening and final matches of the tournament.
The IPL 2024 season commenced on March 22, with the BCCI initially releasing the schedule for the first two weeks comprising 21 matches. The remaining schedule was crafted to accommodate the polling dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections across the country.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated in a media release, "After a break on May 20th, the spotlight will shift to Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium as the world's biggest cricket stadium hosts an electrifying Qualifier 1 clash featuring two top-ranked sides on Tuesday, May 21st, followed by the exciting Eliminator on Wednesday, May 22nd."
He further added, "The Qualifier 2 and the grand final will take place in Chennai, the home turf of reigning champions Chennai Super Kings. The Qualifier 2, to be played between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator, will take place on Friday, May 24th, followed by the summit clash on Sunday, May 26th."
The iconic Chepauk Stadium in Chennai will witness the IPL finale, post the completion of voting in Tamil Nadu for its 39 Lok Sabha seats on April 19.
Delhi Capitals will play their first two home games in Visakhapatnam on March 31 and April 3 due to scheduling reasons, with five subsequent matches scheduled at their actual base in Delhi.
Punjab Kings will conclude their home campaign in Dharamsala, hosting matches against CSK and RCB on May 5 and 9, respectively.
Rajasthan Royals will utilize Guwahati as their second home base, hosting matches against Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 15 and 19, respectively, marking the conclusion of the league stage of IPL 2024.
