Asian Games: Pranavi Urs makes history with golf gold, team wins silver
text_fieldsKasugai: Indian golfer Pranavi Urs created history at the Asian Games by becoming the first Indian woman to win gold in the individual stroke play event, while India also secured silver in the women’s team competition at the Kasugai Country Club East Course.
Pranavi carded an even-par 70 in the final round to finish the four-day competition at 15-under 265 and claim the gold medal. She entered the final round with a three-stroke lead over Singapore’s Shannon Tan but faced an early setback after recording a triple bogey on the third hole.
The 23-year-old responded strongly, making birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th holes to regain the lead before completing the 18th hole at even par and sealing the title.
China’s Yin Ruoning and Singapore’s Tan shared the silver medal after finishing at 14-under par.
Pranavi’s performance also helped India secure silver in the women’s team event alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar. The Indian trio finished with an aggregate score of 14-under 546, behind China, marking India’s first medal in the women’s team golf event at the Asian Games.
Aditi finished joint 14th in the individual event after shooting a three-under 67 in the final round, ending on two-over 282 overall. Diksha carded a seven-over 77 on the final day and finished joint 23rd on 12-over.
The Indian women had entered the final day with hopes of securing two medals. Pranavi had built a three-stroke advantage over Tan after the third round, while India were also in contention for a team medal.
Aditi had previously led the individual standings after the third round before dropping down the leaderboard on the final day and settling for silver. Pranavi’s victory marked another milestone for Indian golf at the Asian Games, with the country adding both an individual gold and a women’s team silver at Kasugai.
