Gwangju (South Korea): The Indian men's archery team of Abhishek Verma, Rajat Chauhan and Aman Saini beat France and won gold at the Archery World Cup 2022 stage 2 on Saturday, IANS reported.

India battled from the back to rush to the front, outscoring French team Quentin Baraer, Jean Phillipe Boulch and Adrien Gontier 232-230, winning gold.

The Indian team won the second straight World Cup after winning Stage 1 in Antalya, Turkey, where it had defeated the same French team.

Abhishek Verma, a former Asian champion, also won bronze pairing with Avneet Kaur in a compound mixed team. The Indian pair beat Turkey's American Haney and Ayse Suzer 156-155 in the third-place play-off.

In the individual men's compound final, archer Mohan Bhardwaj fell short, and India lost another chance at gold. He, who was 42nd in the qualification round, lost 141-149 in the decider.

However, three medals on Saturday took the Indian medal tally at stage 2 of the Archery World Cup 2022 to five. Earlier, the women's compound team comprised Avneet Kaur, Muskan Kirar and Priya Gurjar and the women's recurve team of Ridhi, Komalika Bari and Ankita Bhakat had won a bronze each.

Indian individual recurve archers exhibited a lacklustre performance. Jayanta Talukdar was the only one to reach the top eight in the men's recurve.
