Wonder Woman 3 cancelled after director Patty Jenkins exits the project
text_fieldsGal Gadot's DC superhero film Wonder Woman 3 is most likely cancelled after director Patty Jenkins walked out on the project after rejecting studio notes. The development comes soon after James Gunn and Peter Safran took charge as new co-CEOs.
Speculations suggest that the studio hasn't killed the Wonder Woman franchise but is now focusing on the extended Universe. The new management has also cancelled a follow-up to Man of Steel. The Aquaman series is also set to end after the sequel is set to release in 2023.
The end of Wonder Woman came as a surprise because Gal Gadot hinted that the threequel is in the works last week. Celebrating nine years of the original film, she tweeted: "A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman. I've been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character. And more than anything I'm grateful for YOU. The fans. Can't wait to share her next chapter with you."
Gunn and Safran are working towards concluding the DCEU as established by director Zack Snyder a decade ago, said Hollywood Reporter The main characters are likely to be recast. The focus will be more colourful movies like Shazam and Birds of Prey. Snyder's vision was more on the darker side. Warner Bros. and DC have announced four major movies - Shazam: Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom - for 2023.
"Peter and I chose to helm DC Studios knowing we were coming into a fractious environment, both in the stories being told and in the audience itself and there would be an unavoidable transitional period as we moved into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming. But, in the end, the drawbacks of that transitional period were dwarfed by the creative possibilities and the opportunity to build upon what has worked in DC so far and to help rectify what has not. We are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives," Gunn wrote on social media about the rumours.
