Singapore Open: Sindhu, Prannoy, Saina reach 2nd round

Singapore: Indian ace shuttlers PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy enter the second round of the Singapore Open Super 500 badminton tournament on Wednesday. Also, India's Mithun Manjunath, Ashmita Chaliha and Saina Nehwal gathered wins on the tournament's second day, Asian News International reported.

Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu had an effortless win over Belgium world No. 36 Lianne Tan 21-15 21-11 in direct sets. She will meet Vietnam's Thuy Linh Nguyen next. Prannoy won against Thailand's Sitthikom Thammasin, also in straight sets, 21-13 21-16 and will play against third-seeded Chou Tien Chen.

While Mithun defeated compatriot Kidambi Srikanth in a decider 21-17 15-21 21-18, Ashmita beat Thailand's world number 12 Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-16 21-11 in straight sets. Saina defeated compatriot Malvika Bansod with a 21-18 21-14 in straight sets. Mithun will next take on Ireland's Nhat Nguyen, and world no. 66 Ashmita will face China's Han Yue.

India's Pooja Dandu and Arathi Sara Sunil moved into the women's doubles second round after Chinese Taipei's Hu Ling Fang and Lin Xiao Min withdrew from the tournament.
