London: In the first One Day International staged on Tuesday between India and England, Rohit Sharma became the Indian batter to hit 250 ODI sixes, NDTV reported.

Sharma also became the fourth global batter to reach the milestone. He had hit five sixes in the match to bring India victory with all wickets in hand. He had scored 76 off 58, including seven boundaries, to reach the meagre 110 total raised by England.

On the global table, Shahid Afridi of Pakistan hit the most ODI sixes (351), followed by Chris Gayle of West Indies (331), Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka with (270) and after Sharma, MS Dhoni of India with (229). Among active players, New Zealand's Martin Guptill comes after Dhoni with 184 sixes and England captain Jos Buttler with 144 sixes.

On Tuesday in the Oval stadium, India sent England to bat first and took all the ten out at 110 in 25.2 overs. Jasprit Bumrah took six wickets and Mohammed Shami three. Bumrah made his career-best figure of 6 for 19 in ODIs. Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan (31 off 54) made a 114 partnership to meet the target.

ODI 2 will be played on Lord's Thursday.
