Raj Bhavan employee moves SC over sexual harassment charges against WB Governor

New Delhi: A female employee of the West Bengal Raj Bhavan approached the Supreme Court seeking to direct the West Bengal police to probe the allegations of sexual harassment against Governor C V Ananda Bose, The Wire reported citing Deccan Herald.
The petitioner sought the court to frame guidelines and fix qualifications regarding the immunity enjoyed by Governor under Article 361(2) of the Constitution, which states that no criminal proceeding can be moved against the President, or the Governor of a state in any court during their term in office.
The petitioner stated in her plea that the constitutional immunity to the Governor rendered her ‘remediless’, adding that such powers cannot be absolute that it enables the Governor commit illegal acts.
“The petitioner in fact, also wrote a complaint to Raj Bhavan highlighting her grievances only to be subjected to humiliation in the form of inaction by concerned authorities, and being made a mockery of in the media and termed as a political tool, without any safeguards for her self-respect,” the petitioner reportedly said in her plea.
Governor C V Ananda Bose lodged a defamation case on June 28 against West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee over her statement that women had complained to her that they were afraid of visiting Raj Bhavan.
