Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. He said the path of dialogue and diplomacy should be taken.

The statement came after a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen, Denmark during the three-nation European tour. Frederiksen had said India may be able to influence Russia to stop the invasion as the country is a close partner of Russia.

Prime Minister Modi landed in Copenhagen on Tuesday to hold talks and enhance the bilateral relationship between India and Denmark.

Frederiksen also said she and Modi discussed the Ukraine war and the consequences of horrible crimes committed against civilians and the humanitarian crisis. She added that the Bucha Massacre is deeply shocking. The Danish PM also called the invasion of Europe to be unlawful and unprovoked.

Both Prime Ministers condemned the killings and stressed the need for an independent investigation. Frederiksen said that Denmark and the entire European Union strongly condemn Russia's actions.

During the meeting, the two nation leaders held delegation-level talks, and some MoUs were signed. PM Modi said there have been some important developments in renewable energy, health, ports, shipping, circular economy, and water management.

He noted that over 200 Danish companies are currently working in various sectors in India. They are benefiting from an increased ease of doing business and economic reforms in the country.

The progress in the Green Strategic Partnership was also reviewed along with wide-ranging cooperation in areas of skill development, climate, renewable energy, Arctic, and P2P ties. PM Modi had tweeted the visit "will go a long way in further cementing India-Denmark ties".

On the three-nation tour, Prime Minister has already met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He is next slated to visit President Emmanuel Macron in France.
