New Delhi: Many view Yyotiraditya Scindia’s embracing of BJP as a sort of gharvapasi.

There is not without reason in this considering the fact that his father Madhavrao Scindia had links with Hindu Maha Sabha and Jan Sangh.

With Yyotiraditya Scindia’s entry in BJP, the last of the royalties also turns saffron.

His grandmother Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia was a founding member of BJP alongside Atal  Bihari Vajpayee.  Madhavrao Scindia entered in politics in 1972 via Jan Sangh.

He started to be a Congress man during emergency when Indira Gandhi spared him jail.

He was an independent MP supported by Congress in 1977, and in 1980 he joined Congress. Thus one of the royalties took a different path.

When Madhavrao Scindia died in copter accident in December 30, 2001, Jyotiraditya entered in politics following father’s legacy.

He remained a congress man even as his relatives including Chief Minister Vasundaraj, Yesodara Scindia were in BJP.
