Courts too in lockdown: Prashant Bhushan

New Delhi: With the lockdown in the country,  courts have also gone into lockdown,  said senior Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan.   Even after lockdown,  the number cases heard via video conferencing is a mere 30 or 40 maximum. 

In a period with greater responsibility,  the courts are depriving themselves of its independence,  he blamed.  Bhushan was speaking at a webinar organised by Welfare Party on the topic ' Second Modi government: a year of turbulence'.

Former civil servant and human rights activis Harsh Mander commented that all the fundamental institutions of democracy have succumbed before the government which was aggravated by the loss of values of the media.

Human rights activist Kavita Krishnan charged the government was not willing to even supply the excess stock of  food grains in the warehouses to migrant labourers.  She added that the stock of foodgrains was enough to supply it at the rate of 10 kg to every citizen.

Kavita Krishnan also said that if Tabligh Jamaat workers were earlier subjected to fake propaganda that they were spreaders of corona virus,  now that is being attributed to migrant labourers from different states.
