Bengaluru lawyers seek bail for Kashmiri students

Dharwad: A group of lawyers from Bengaluru on Friday submitted applications in the districts and sessiions court here, seeking bail for three Kashmiri engineering students, who were charged with sedition on February 15 for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan and 'Azadi'slogans.
The advocates sumbitted the bail applications to the court administratvie officer. The district judge will decide on the jurisdiction court before considering the applications.
The students were brought into the court hall from the backdoor to avoid publi glare. The advocates were escorted out of the court with huge security force.
The Karnataka High Court had said that a senior member of the Hubballi Bar Association (HBA) or Dharwad Bar Association should argue the case on behalf of the students to uphold the best traditions of the legal profession. However, the lawyers who finally filed the bail petition are from Bengaluru.
HBA had earlier passed a resolution barring its members from appearing on behalf of the accusd students and requesting members of other bars to follow suit.
