Lockdown in Mumbai, Pune may be extended till 18 May: State health minister

Mumbai: As COVID-19 cases are on the rise in the city, Mumbai and Pune will have to wait till May 18 to enjoy  normalcy.

Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope told as much on Sunday, reports Mint.

The lockdown, however, would be limited only for the containment zones.        

In the event of COVID-19 spread is not getting contained, lockdown will be extended.

There are 512 active containment zones in the state now.

The market areas in central old Pune and Kondhwa have been sealed since April 7.

COVID-19 tally in the city has peaked to 4,589, with 357 more testing positive and death toll rose to 179.

The nationwide coronavirus-led lockdown is likely to end on May 3.
