"New Delhi: After a vicious media hunt, assault on Tablighi members has hit the streets.
One of two Tabligh activists who were brutally attacked in North East Delhi is in critical stage.
Tractor driver Mehboob Ali is in a critical stage. Police denied earlier media reports that Meboob had succumbed to injuries.
Mehboob had returned to his village in a vegetable truck from Madhya Pradesh where he had been for Tabligh activities.
He tested negative in a Covid 19 test after police nabbed him at Azadpur vegetable market.
Police said that Mehboob was attacked on Sunday and was taken to hospital by them.
Delhi Minority Commission said that Mehboob had gone to Bhopal with his friend Nur Mohammed for Tabligh activities. Upon his return, he was denied entry to the village by Jat community members.
Familiar members of Jat community surrounded him and beat with chappals and batons. Jat members, including government officials, broke Mehboob’s hand while their family members stood watching.
The minority commission said that an ambulance was called as it appeared that he might die. Nur Mohammed who was in his company, was attacked at his village.
After the incident, Muslims of Harivali and Khutubgarh have been instructed to live according to Hindu beliefs and rituals. They were threatened with expulsion from the village in case of non-compliance.
Jat community members are mounting pressure on Mehboob’s family to settle the issue.
