Assam NRC Final List Out on August 31
text_fieldsGuwahati: Assam government is taking measures to ensure peace in the state, as the final list of National Register of Citizen(NRC) would be out on August 31.
The government would set up state-wide 400 tribunals, in addition to the existing ones, to confirm exclusion or inclusion of citizens in the list.
The state government has sought the Centre to make available more Central forces to ensure law and order situation. Also, the deadline to appeal would be extended from 60 days to 120 days.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed police officials to maintain close relations with “influential people and opinion makers” in society to avoid “misunderstanding” regarding the NRC process among the people.
The three lists of the NRC published so far have left out over 41 lakh people.
The updating of NRC, first time since 1951, stems from the six year-long Assam agitation in the 1980s which called for ousting foreigners settled in the state, mainly from Bangladesh.
