Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley passes away at AIIMS
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley died at the AIIMS here on Saturday.
The veteran BJP leader’s condition deteriorated on Friday and he was aided life support.
Former Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitely passed away at AIIMS on Saturday after prolonged illness. Jaitley had undergone dialysis on Thursday.
"It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Member of Parliament (MP) at 12:07 p.m. on Saturday. Jaitley was admitted in AIIMS, New Delhi on Auguts 9 and was treated by a multi-disciplinary team of senior doctors," said Aarti Vij, Chairperson, Media and Protocol, AIIMS.
Jaitley held the cabinet portfolios of Finance, Defence, Corporate Affairs, Commerce and Industry and Law and Justice in the Vajpayee government and Narendra Modi government.
From 2009 to 2014 he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
He was a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India.
Arun Jaitley was born on 28 December 1952 at New Delhi.
The deceased is survived by his wife Sangeeta and two children Rohan and Sonali.
