Former Tamil Nadu football skipper passes away

Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu football team skipper Kalia Kulothungan passed away in a road accident in his village in the state.

He was 40. The accident took place at Thanjavur.

Kalia was the captain of Tamil Nadu Santhosh Trophy team and midfielder for East Bengal. he had an illustrious career which included several titles as well.

Kaliya was the Tamil Nadu captain for the 2009 Santhosh Trophy. He was part of East Bengal team for three years and later played for Mohammedan Sporting and Mohun Bagan. He had also played for Mumbai FC, for Viva Kerala during the 2010-11 season and also for Bhawanipore FC.

He played along with some prominent names of Indian football namely Bhaichung Bhutia, Okoro, Junior, Bijen and Raman Vijayan.

Tributes for Kulonthungan poured on social media, with former club Mohammedan amongst those paying their respects.
