Chidambaram gets temporary reprieve from arrest till 1 Aug
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Delhi High Court granted interim protection from arrest to P Chidambaram till August 1 in INX Media case on Wednesday.
The Court said, until then, no coercive action can be taken against P Chidambaram.
Justice A K Pathak has directed Chidambharam to cooperate with the Enforcement Directorate's investigation and not leave the country without court's prior permission.
Chidambaram had approached the trial court seeking anticipatory bail. The High Court will consider it on August 1.
The central bureau of investigation on Friday, July,19, had filed a fresh chargesheet, naming P. Chidambaram as a co-accused in the Aircel-Maxis case. Sixteen other people, including government officials - both serving and retired, were also named in the chargesheet.
The senior Congress leader's role had come under the scanner of investigating agencies in the Aircel-Maxis deal of Rs 3,500 crore and INX Media case involving Rs 305 crore.
The Aircel-Maxis deal case, which emerged out of 2G spectrum cases, pertains to a grant by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to firm M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd for investment in Aircel.
