Bengaluru: Mysuru witnessed widespread protests after BJP central committee decided not to give election tickets to BY Vijayendra, son of chief ministerial candidate and BJP's former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa. The central committee announced the list of seven candidates on Monday. Shoba Kalantharajai who is close to Yeddyurappa is also not in the list.

The party is yet to release the names of candidates for a few more seats. The remaining slots include the constituencies where Vijayendra is supposed to contest. Siddalagata, Sakaleshpur and Badami-Siddaramaiah's second constituency are yet to have BJP candidates.

In a party meeting held at Nanjankode, Yeddyurappa himself announced the decision regarding non-candidature of Vijayendra. He said that the party has decided to not field Vijayendra and he is not dissatisfied with the decision. However, he said, Vijayendra will campaign for the party in 20 constituencies in Mysuru-Chamarajanagar.

The party workers, however, protested the decision and rammed to the stage and called slogans against the party president Amit Shah and union minister Anand Kumar Hegde. They staged a gherao against Yeddyurappa and tore down the posters of Hegde and Mysuru MP Pratap Sinha.

Later, Mysuru-Bengaluru national highway was blocked by the party workers. The party leaders’ effort to control the workers proved vain.

Denial of candidature to Soba Kalantharajai is widely seen as a setback to Yeddyurappa.
