UAE to host International Moon Day Conference in Abu Dhabi in 2025

The United Arab Emirates has been announced as the host of the International Moon Day Conference, set to take place in Abu Dhabi in 2025. The announcement coincided with the UAE’s celebration of its 53rd Eid Al Etihad and was made during the nation’s participation in Space Week in Luxembourg.

Space Week, the world’s largest annual space event, serves as a platform for international experts, entrepreneurs, policymakers and space enthusiasts to discuss advancements in space exploration and its impact on Earth. The ongoing event in Luxembourg highlighted future prospects in the field, with discussions focused on global cooperation and innovation.

The UAE delegation to the event was led by Dr. Salem bin Abdullah Al Wahshi, CEO of the Emirates Council for Work Relations Development. The announcement was delivered during a session chaired by Dr. Nasr Al-Sahhaf, Chair of the United Nations International Moon Day.

World Space Week, established by the UN General Assembly through resolution 54/68 in 1999, celebrates the contributions of space science and technology to improving human life. With over 5,000 events held in more than 80 countries in 2018 alone, the event demonstrates strong public support for space programs, inspires students, educates the public and promotes international collaboration in space outreach and education.

Each year, the World Space Week Association Board of Directors, in coordination with the UN Office of Outer Space Affairs, selects a global theme to guide the event’s activities, ensuring its relevance and impact on humanity.
