UAE launches measles vaccination campaign to strengthen immunisation coverage
text_fieldsThe UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has rolled out the National Supplementary Measles Immunisation Campaign 2024, an initiative aimed at strengthening immunity against measles through an additional booster dose of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine. The campaign, launched under the slogan "Protect Yourself, Protect Your Community", targets children aged 1 to 7, with the objective of increasing vaccination coverage and protecting against the severe complications associated with measles.
Aligned with the UAE’s national measles elimination goals and the global target to eradicate measles by 2030, this immunisation drive underscores MoHAP's commitment to creating a preventive and health-conscious society. Vaccination remains central to the Ministry’s public health strategy, seen as the safest and most effective measure in preventing the spread of communicable diseases.
The campaign is conducted in collaboration with Emirates Health Services, Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, and Dubai Health Authority, representing a strategic investment in the health and well-being of future generations. Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector, emphasized that the campaign aligns with the National Policy on Vaccinations. This comprehensive framework brings together multiple sectors to combat infectious diseases, safeguard public health and contribute to sustainable development.
By focusing on proactive disease prevention, the National Measles Immunisation Campaign reinforces the UAE’s commitment to protecting public health and supporting the development of a resilient, health-aware society.
