Authorities in the UAE issued new public safety warnings on Thursday as forecasters signalled two days of unstable weather across Abu Dhabi, Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

Officials in both emirates advised residents to prepare for heavy rain, strong wind and thunderstorms expected to develop from Thursday afternoon and continue into Friday. Police in Dubai asked the public to prioritise safety by avoiding beaches, valleys, sailing areas and locations known to flood. Drivers were urged to slow down, adjust speed to conditions and stay clear of mountainous and coastal zones during periods of poor visibility.

Dubai’s government media office said wind speeds could reach 65kph and released emergency contact numbers for police, ambulance and municipal services for those affected by the weather. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, issued a brief social media alert telling residents to be ready for shifting conditions.

Abu Dhabi Police issued similar notices, calling on motorists to check forecasts before travelling, keep safe distance on roads and comply with variable speed limits displayed on electronic signs. Officers also warned drivers not to take photos of the weather while behind the wheel.

Forecast data from the National Centre of Meteorology indicated the strongest rainfall would arrive on Thursday and Friday, with lightning, thunder and isolated hail possible in parts of the country. The centre’s mapping tools showed widespread rain across major cities, easing by Saturday. Independent tracking platforms projected afternoon showers in Abu Dhabi followed by heavier storms late Thursday, with Dubai expected to see intermittent rain and thunder from the afternoon through early Friday.
