UAE Foreign Minister engages in talks with regional counterparts on Syria crisis

After nearly two weeks of intense clashes, Syrian rebels captured four key cities and entered Damascus on Sunday, with no visible army presence. Syrian President Bashar Al Assad reportedly fled to Moscow, where he and his family were granted asylum, according to Russian news agency TASS.
During his conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the critical role of the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, in addressing the crisis. Both leaders agreed on the need to activate UN mechanisms and reaffirmed their commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 2254 as a pathway to a political settlement that reflects the aspirations of the Syrian people.
In talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Sheikh Abdullah stressed the importance of preserving Syria’s unity and sovereignty while supporting its security, stability, and developmental progress.
Sheikh Abdullah also discussed Syria’s territorial integrity with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration Dr. Badr Abdel Aty. Both leaders highlighted the necessity of upholding Syria’s sovereignty and ensuring stability amidst the ongoing upheaval.
The UAE has expressed deep concern over the rapidly evolving situation and reaffirmed its commitment to Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and the security of its people. In a statement, the UAE emphasized its steadfast support for a peaceful resolution to ensure stability and prosperity for the Syrian state and its citizens.
