UAE declares July 18 as Union Pledge Day
text_fieldsPresident Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed announced the establishment of Union Pledge Day on July 18. This day commemorates the pivotal meeting in 1971 that set the stage for the formation of the UAE Federation, officially established on December 2, 1971.
“On this day in 1971, the Founding Father and his brothers the Rulers signed the declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution while announcing the name of our country: the United Arab Emirates. In preparation for the nation’s establishment on 2 December, it was a historic day on which they laid the foundations of the Union. Today, we declare 18 July as Union Pledge Day, a national occasion to celebrate the history of our country and the blessed journey towards establishing the Union."
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed made the announcement on social media, emphasizing that Union Pledge Day serves as a time to reflect on the country's history and its journey towards union.
Union Pledge Day joins Union Day, Flag Day and Commemoration Day as the fourth national occasion. Union Pledge Day aims to promote the national values and principles established by Sheikh Zayed and the other founding Rulers. It also seeks to educate the youth about the history and efforts that led to the formation of the UAE.
This day is intended to honour the foundation of the UAE and raise awareness of the sacrifices made to achieve this historic union.
