On Monday, the UAE Cabinet approved a new federal law on traffic, announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The law includes amendments to vehicle classifications and the use of modern technologies on the roads, aimed at aligning with global transport industry developments. It will expand the use of self-driving vehicles, electric cars and various types of personal transportation.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the new legislation leverages technological advancements in the UAE’s road network. The announcement followed a UAE Cabinet meeting, which addressed several key issues in line with the country's developmental goals.

Tourist Protection Measures

The UAE Cabinet also approved adherence to the International Code for the Protection of Tourists, issued by the United Nations Tourism Organization. This code will guide tourism institutions in providing better services and ensuring the safety of international tourists.

Emirati Genome Programme Expansion

The Emirati Genome Programme, which has collected over 600,000 genetic samples, aims to map genetic and hereditary diseases in the UAE. Sheikh Mohammed announced the expansion of pre-marital screening to include all genetic and hereditary diseases.

The program plans to increase the sample size to one million, with over 1,000 trained medical personnel supporting the initiative. The collected data will aid in developing targeted medicines for prevalent diseases.

UAE Joins BRICS

The UAE has joined the global economic bloc BRICS, with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank representing the country in various working groups. This move aims to build economic bridges and maintain global economic relations.

Economic Growth and Digital Transformation

The UAE Cabinet approved the formation of a working group to develop the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), led by the Ministry of Economy. This group will strengthen the FCCI’s role in the economy and help local companies enter international markets.

The Cabinet also adopted a framework for sustainable government digital transformation and a charter for the safe and private use of artificial intelligence (AI). Dubai has appointed 22 Chief AI officers across different government entities to enhance the development and deployment of AI solutions, aiming to position Dubai as a global AI hub.
