Sheikh Mohammed launches UAE's new Ministry of Family
text_fieldsA significant step toward strengthening the social fabric of the UAE was announced as Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, introduced the Ministry of Family Affairs. This new ministry is tasked with empowering families, fostering cohesion, and ensuring national stability.
Sanaa Suhail, with extensive experience in early childhood development, family support, and community initiatives, has been appointed to lead the ministry.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of this move, saying, "The family is a national priority, the cornerstone of progress, and a guarantee for the nation’s future."
This announcement aligns with directives from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed to develop comprehensive national programs that support family stability, increase fertility rates and empower family growth.
The Ministry of Family Affairs will take on key responsibilities, including building cohesive families, encouraging proper upbringing, and proposing strategies to increase fertility rates among Emirati families. It will also work to mitigate the risks of family breakdown, prepare couples for marriage through specialized programs, and support child well-being by addressing their social, educational, health and psychological needs. Further, the ministry will ensure the protection and empowerment of vulnerable groups in society, regulate institutions providing social services, and license professionals in the social sector.
Sheikh Mohammed said, "The new ministry will be tasked with this important national matter".
In addition to the creation of the Ministry of Family Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed announced a change in the Ministry of Community Development's name to the Ministry of Community Empowerment, which will now focus on a more advanced and integrated system of social empowerment. Shamma Al Mazrouei will lead this restructured ministry, with responsibilities including managing social support and empowerment systems, ensuring dignified living for Emirati families with limited income and overseeing social support distribution.
The ministry will also regulate public benefit organizations, promote volunteer work and manage the licensing and operations of houses of worship for non-Muslims.
These strategic moves reflect the UAE's dedication to fostering strong families and cohesive communities while addressing evolving societal needs. The introduction of the Ministry of Family Affairs and the rebranding of the Ministry of Community Empowerment highlight the nation’s commitment to empowering its citizens and securing a prosperous future.
