Sharjah: Sharjah authorities unveils ambitious plans for the development of the Mleiha desert into a grand national park. The project aims to create a sustainability-focused reserve dedicated to preserving the area's rich history spanning over 200,000 years.

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), emphasized the commitment to sustainability and historical preservation underlying the establishment of the Mleiha National Park. This initiative reflects Sharjah and Shurooq's dedication to safeguarding the UAE's and the region's cultural heritage for future generations.

Mleiha National Park will be the first-of-its-kind protected area in Sharjah, dedicated to conserving the emirate's natural history and archaeological past. The 34sqkm desert, situated in Sharjah's central region, holds significant archaeological importance, with evidence of early human occupation discovered by archaeologists.

The development of Mleiha National Park follows Emiri Decree No. 16 of 2024 issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This decree showcases the government's vision towards preserving cultural heritage and promoting sustainable tourism.

Upon completion, Mleiha National Park is set to become one of the region's most prized archaeological assets. It will serve as a platform for discovery, scientific research and cultural exchange, offering visitors immersive experiences while preserving the story of early humanity and Mleiha's natural heritage.
