Sharjah residents urged to conserve energy during summer

To address the surge in energy consumption during the summer, the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has launched a new initiative called Conservation Hour. SEWA is encouraging residents to adopt energy rationalisation as a daily practice.

As part of the initiative, residents are asked to switch off non-essential electrical appliances during peak hours, specifically from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm, from July to September. This initiative aims to reduce the high energy usage that occurs when temperatures reach peak.

This summer, temperatures in the UAE have already exceeded 50°C, with extreme heat expected from mid-July to the end of August. During this time, humidity levels can also rise to 90 per cent. Conservation Hour is one of several efforts by SEWA to promote energy conservation awareness among the community.
