PM Modi briefed by LuLu chairman on sustained food supplies to GCC

India continues to supply food products to GCC countries, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi receiving an update from LuLu Group chairman Yusuffali M.A. on measures to sustain shipments during the current global conditions.

The meeting at the prime minister’s residence in New Delhi reviewed efforts to ensure the availability of essential food items across Gulf markets, where demand for Indian-origin products remains high due to large expatriate populations.

Discussions focused on maintaining supply chain operations and keeping prices stable, as retailers and authorities work to avoid shortages and prevent panic buying.

LuLu Group, which operates more than 280 hypermarkets in the GCC, said it has imported about 15,000 tons of food products so far using chartered flights, cargo vessels and regular shipping routes from multiple locations in India.

The company said 34 dedicated chartered flights have already been deployed, with further shipments planned. Its sourcing and export facilities across Indian states are operating at increased capacity to meet overseas demand.

India remains a key trading partner for GCC countries, with food exports supporting both regional consumption and domestic producers, including farmers and exporters.

Yusuffali said additional cargo operations are being scheduled in the coming weeks. Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the importance of such initiatives and assured full support from the Government of India to facilitate the smooth export of food products to GCC countries.
