Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold discussions on the regional war and energy cooperation during a brief visit to the UAE on Friday.

Mr Modi will meet President Sheikh Mohamed in Abu Dhabi before departing for the Netherlands as part of a five-country tour that also includes Sweden, Norway and Italy.

Indian officials said the leaders are expected to hold detailed talks on regional developments as well as efforts to strengthen energy partnerships between the UAE and India.

The visit marks Mr Modi’s first trip to the region since Iran launched missile and drone attacks on February 28.

The meeting also reflects the close relationship between the two countries. Friday’s visit will be Mr Modi’s eighth trip to the UAE in the past 12 years.

President Sheikh Mohamed has visited India five times, most recently in January, when he met Mr Modi in New Delhi.
