The death of 30-year-old Athulya Sekhar, who was found hanging in her apartment in Sharjah's Rolla area on July 19, has been confirmed as a suicide by the Sharjah forensic department.

Athulya, originally from Kerala, had celebrated her birthday just a day before her death. She was set to begin a new job at a mall and had been living in Sharjah for the past two years.

Social worker Abdullah Kamampalam told Khaleej Times, the forensic report from local authorities officially determined the cause of death as suicide by hanging.

Despite the forensic findings, a case has been filed against Athulya’s husband in Kerala. The complaint, lodged by her parents, includes charges of physical abuse, dowry harassment, and murder. The investigation into the charges is ongoing.

Repatriation procedures for Athulya’s body are currently underway, with arrangements being coordinated to return her remains to her hometown in Kerala.
