As of August 17, the minimum top-up amount for Nol cards at Dubai Metro station ticket offices was increased from Dh20 to Dh50, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The new rule, announced on RTA’s official X account, did not apply to commuters topping up their cards online.

"Starting August 17, 2024, the minimum top-up at Metro station ticket offices will increase to AED 50," RTA confirmed in the post. Earlier in January, the minimum top-up had been raised from Dh5 to Dh20.

Commuters were required to maintain a minimum balance of Dh15 on their Nol card to cover a round trip on the Metro network.

The Nol card, a prepaid smart card, was used for various forms of public transport across Dubai, including the Metro, buses, trams, and waterbuses. It also served as a payment method for taxis, parking, entry to public parks, the Etihad Museum, and over 2,000 shops and restaurants across the city.
