Dubai Police's AI-powered biometric tunnel identifies individuals by walking style
text_fieldsDubai Police displayed a new Biometric Tunnel system at Gitex Global 2025, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Developed by Dubiometrics, the tunnel identifies people by analysing their walking style using artificial intelligence and machine learning. The system studies factors such as joint motion, rhythm and traits like the influence of flat feet. It can record a person’s motion fingerprint in about five seconds.
Lt Col Dr Hamad Mansour Al Awr, the project director, said the initiative is part of Dubai Police’s ongoing research and development work. He added that the system can combine gait data with other biometric identifiers, including facial, ear and body measurements, to strengthen criminal investigations.
According to Al Awr, examining walking patterns allows forensic teams to identify individuals more accurately when other methods are unavailable.
