Dubai installs 726 bus shelters to improve links with metro, taxis
text_fieldsDubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has completed the installation of 726 bus shelters across the emirate, targeting areas with high commuter demand and future network expansion.
The shelters have been placed in key neighbourhoods and transport corridors to support daily bus users and improve links with metro services, taxis and shared mobility options.
RTA said the network is designed to handle heavy passenger volumes, with the shelters collectively serving more than 192 million riders each year. Some of the busiest locations are connected to more than 10 bus routes.
Officials said the added capacity is expected to reduce waiting times and support smoother operations across the public transport system.
The shelters have been introduced in seven different models based on usage levels, ranging from major stops handling more than 750 passengers a day to smaller pick-up points serving fewer than 100.
Larger units include air-conditioned waiting areas, shaded seating, advertising panels and digital displays providing route details, schedules and service frequency.
Authorities said the upgrades are intended to improve passenger comfort and support the use of public transport during peak summer conditions.
