Abu Dhabi to open Natural History Museum tracing 13.8 billion years of life

Abu Dhabi’s new Natural History Museum will open its doors to the public on November 22, presenting one of the most extensive scientific and educational facilities in the Middle East. Located in the Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum spans more than 35,000 square metres and traces 13.8 billion years of natural history, from the formation of the universe to the evolution of life on Earth.
Ahead of the opening, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, toured the new museum. Their visit began in the central atrium, which features a lifelike arrangement of sauropod dinosaurs displayed in motion, marking a world-first installation of its kind.
During the visit, Sheikh Khaled said the museum’s discoveries and exhibits reflect the UAE’s expanding role in the natural sciences and its commitment to education and environmental awareness. He highlighted that the museum supports learning about biodiversity, conservation and sustainable practices, while also inspiring future generations to engage with science and research.
Sheikh Hamdan described the museum as an important addition to the UAE’s cultural and scientific infrastructure, noting that it strengthens the country’s position as a global centre for knowledge, innovation and scientific thinking.
