The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has fined a recreational fishing boat owner Dh20,000 for surpassing the daily fishing limit, marking a strong stance in the effort to protect the emirate’s marine resources. EAD’s regulations stipulate that recreational fishing boats which exceed daily catch limits must hold a commercial fishing license, which most recreational vessels do not possess. Operating without this license is deemed an environmental violation, carrying a penalty of Dh2,000.

In addition to fines, the EAD enforces stricter measures for repeat violations to further support marine conservation. A second offense results in the boat’s impoundment for one month, while a third violation leads to a suspension of the boat’s license.

Through these measures, the EAD aims to uphold the sustainability of Abu Dhabi’s marine ecosystem, ensuring that marine resources remain protected for future generations. Recreational boat owners are encouraged to adhere to all relevant regulations and support ongoing conservation efforts to prevent further violations and safeguard marine life.
