Saudi expresses regret over UN's failure to approve Palestine's full membership

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia expressed regret over the failure of the United Nations Security Council to adopt a resolution accepting Palestine's full membership in the UN.

Saudi Arabia, in an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on social media platform X, expressed regret over the failure of the UN Security Council to adopt the resolution. The Kingdom emphasized that the lack of adoption allows the Israeli occupation to continue its violations of international law without deterrence, hindering the path to desired peace in the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed Saudi Arabia's call for the international community to assume its responsibility for halting the Israeli occupation's attacks on civilians in Gaza. The Kingdom reiterated its support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Jordan also expressed sincere sorrow over the Security Council's inability to approve the resolution due to the veto power of the United States. The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the international community's support for the two-state solution and condemned Israel's actions undermining it.

Jordan emphasized the necessity for the Security Council to recognize the Palestinian state as a means to end the occupation and conflict, ensuring the right of all peoples in the region to live in security and stability. The ministry spokesperson, Sufian Qudah, reiterated Jordan's demand for the acknowledgement of the State of Palestine on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
