Saudi Journalists Association unveils comprehensive strategy for excellence
text_fieldsRiyadh: The Saudi Journalists Association’s newly elected board embarks on a transformative journey for the field of journalism, unveiling a comprehensive executive strategy that promises to usher in a new era of excellence.
In a recent meeting led by the association’s chairman Adhwan Al-Ahmari, as part of the Saudi Media Forum in Riyadh, several key initiatives were approved, signalling a profound commitment to advancing the profession within the kingdom and beyond.
The cornerstone of this strategy is the establishment of multiple dedicated committees, each tasked with addressing crucial aspects of media development. These committees include the Executive Committee, which will set interim targets and tackle urgent issues, and the Press Freedoms Committee, aimed at safeguarding press freedoms in collaboration with international media organizations.
The board also prioritized the formation of the Review and Performance Committee to ensure effective monitoring of committee activities and target fulfilment. A Committee for Developing Financial Resources will explore sustainable income generation avenues, while the Members and Relations Committee will oversee member affairs and outreach efforts.
Recognizing the importance of professional development, the board initiated a Training Committee to craft comprehensive training programs and foster partnerships with educational institutions. Meanwhile, the Events Committee will spearhead executive plans for association events and the Content Committee will establish editorial policies and enhance the association’s digital presence.
The board planned the establishment of a journalists' club in Riyadh, aiming to foster community and solidarity among media professionals. Legal protection for media workers, expansion of membership to include media students and trainees and securing funding sources were also key points of discussion during the meeting.
This strategic endeavour by the Saudi Journalists Association comes amidst dynamic shifts in the global media landscape. The recent addition of Mehdi Hasan, a prominent news commentator, to The Guardian US reflects a broader trend of media platforms embracing diverse voices and engaging audiences in critical discourse. Besides, controversies such as US congressman Andy Ogles' remarks underscore the pivotal role of journalists in shaping public opinion and upholding ethical standards.
As the association embarks on its visionary plan and global media narratives evolve, it highlights the enduring power and responsibility of the press. This pivotal moment serves as a call to action for media practitioners worldwide to champion press freedom and uphold journalistic integrity.
