Saudi Arabia, Morocco sign renewable energy cooperation program

Saudi Arabia and Morocco have signed an executive program to expand cooperation in renewable energy and related sectors following talks held in Riyadh between the two countries’ energy ministers.
Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman met Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, to review areas of mutual interest and discuss ways to strengthen investment and cooperation in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The meeting concluded with the signing of an executive program for cooperation in renewable energy, aimed at enabling companies from both countries to implement joint projects. The program operates under a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation signed by Saudi Arabia and Morocco in May 2022.
According to both sides, the program is intended to strengthen the bilateral partnership and increase mutual investments to support renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia, Morocco and other countries.
It also focuses on enabling national companies to cooperate on projects involving renewable energy, energy storage systems, grid integration of renewable sources, electricity transmission lines and power grid enhancement.
The agreement also includes the use of renewable energy sources in development and infrastructure projects, the implementation of projects developed and operated using renewable energy, and cooperation on establishing and developing research centres, technology development, training, and capacity building to support sustainability and knowledge transfer.
