Saudi air defences intercept drones targeting Riyadh, eastern regions

Saudi air defence units intercepted and destroyed several drones overnight Friday after multiple areas across the Kingdom were targeted, including Riyadh and key energy infrastructure in the southeast.
The Ministry of Defense said a drone was shot down as it attempted to approach the Diplomatic Quarter in the capital. Five others were intercepted over Al-Kharj Governorate and the Empty Quarter.
Earlier, authorities reported attempts to target the Kingdom’s eastern and central regions, as well as the Shaybah oil field. Updates were issued through a series of statements posted on X.
Officials said more than two dozen drones have been brought down within Saudi airspace so far. At least 24 of those were heading toward eastern and central areas. Another drone was intercepted near the Diplomatic Quarter.
