Saudi Arabia's Makkah to issue permits to dispense iftar meals at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and across the holy city amidst an effort to boost Ramadan spirits during the pandemic.

Makkah's Watering and Relief Committee announced the recommencement of issuing permits for the Iftar Sayim initiative to residents in and around the Makkah region. Iftar Sayim is an act of offering meals for fasting Muslims to break their fast.

Permits are given out through the committee's website https://sr-mkh.org.sa. The committee has specified items authorized to be distributed as part of the iftar meal for this year on the website. The pandemic had forced the region to halt Iftar Sayim last year. This year, the kingdom has mandated all pilgrims and healthcare staffs to be vaccinated for the Hajj pilgrimage.

The kingdom has witnessed a steady number of Covid19 cases bringing in hope for a subsequent fall. Saudi Arabia recorded 381 new Covid19 cases on Thursday, bringing the total number of infections to 383,880 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,591. The Ministry of Health also reported 373,601 total covid19 related recoveries in the kingdom.
