Houthi attack sparks fresh alarm in Saudi Arabia as 11 civilians hurt

Sanaa: A fresh Houthi assault on Saudi Arabia’s southern border has injured 11 civilians in Najran, including a four-year-old child, raising fresh fears over the widening threat from Yemen.
Saudi Arabia’s coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government said the attack targeted residential areas and civilian infrastructure with indiscriminate shelling. The injured included seven Saudi nationals, among them a woman and the young child, as well as one Yemeni national, two Egyptian expatriates and a Pakistani national, reported India Today.
Coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al-Malki condemned the attack as a serious breach of international humanitarian law, accusing the Houthis of deliberately putting civilians at risk. Saudi authorities said they would continue taking defensive measures to protect civilians and critical infrastructure, reported the Saudi Press Agency.
The assault comes amid a sharp escalation in Yemen, where Houthi attacks have also struck forces aligned with the internationally recognised government. Recent violence has marked the most serious escalation since the 2022 truce, reported The Associated Press.
The fresh strike has intensified fears that the fragile calm around Yemen is rapidly collapsing, potentially pushing Saudi Arabia towards another major confrontation with the Houthis.
